Major symptoms

  • It starts with sudden onset of diarrhea and causes vomiting, dehydration, and collapse. There is no fever but sometimes it generates cramp muscle.
  • Recently, it is rare to contract rice water diarrhea but most of the cases are accompanied by mild diarrhea.

Route of infection

  • One is infected when contaminated water or food is consumed, if there is contact with the vomit or feces of a Cholera patient, or consumed rare seafood. It is also possible but rare to be infected through contact with a Cholera patient or a disease carrier thus, the caregiver of a patient with diarrhea should not handle food in order to avoid potential spread of the disease.

Incubation period

  • Incubation period: 6 hours ~ 5 days (the symptoms generally occur within 24 hours of exposure)

Preventive measure

  • It is important to wash hands frequently.
  • The water supply system¡¯s cleanliness has to be regularly maintained.
  • In case of occurrence of Cholera, quarantine the patient and disinfect the vicinity.
